Brooke Masters: And it has to be something more, something stronger than I just want to lose 10 pounds. I usually get deeper into what is the reason that those 10 pounds would matter, right? What is the reason and the impact it would have? And many times we just think about ourselves. But for me, what really helped is also thinking about what it would impact around me. So the first thing that for me, Calvin and Brooke Masters: hosted by our team of expert coaches with proven strategies, science-based tips, and real life encouragement, not just to help you lose fat, but actually create that lifestyle that you love. You've tried everything. Now, let's try what actually works. This is your turning point. Let's go. Let's do this together. Brooke Masters: that truly means something is my kids. ⁓ going through a loss of my mom and watching her in a place of nothing she could have prevented, but watching her deteriorate, ⁓ her sick, watching her go through these things as a child, ⁓ would never want my kids to have to see what I saw. I would never have to want them to experience that. So I do everything in my power to keep myself healthy. So it was bigger than just weight loss, but I wanted to be strong. I wanted to be healthy. And when my kids are getting older, like I busted my butt when they were younger, I was working full time. was having to do with them, dealing with them. You know, we had financial things going on. It was so much stress that I feel like I didn't get to enjoy as much as I could. And it was a lot of wasted time. So In my mind, I really want to make the most out of the years from now until the end. want to be and experience life in a way that I have all the joys. I have all the, ⁓ know, the things that I get to look forward to. When they're getting older, I don't want to be a frail little old lady that is having a hard time getting out of a chair. I don't want to be so weak that I can't live independently anymore. So when I don't feel like going to the gym or I don't feel like making my food, it always goes back to, well, is the person that you want to become in the future going to want to make this decision right now? It is a matter of stopping myself before the choices are made and to remind myself of why I am doing it and what needs to take place. in order to become the person that I want to be. So always starting with your why and remembering that it's going to impact more. Remember when you are confident in yourself, when you are healthy, you feel strong, how will you show up with people that you lead at work, people that you impact? If you are someone who is in the healthcare field, someone that is doing things and working with others, that you are going to be how you show up and how you feel can actually impact them as well. Your kids, your partner, right? If you are feeling amazing about yourself, you are feeling confident, is the difference then of how you show up in your relationship versus feeling insecure, feeling tired all the time, feeling like you just don't wanna go out because nothing fits? So you don't have any socialization. You don't have those experiences because I've been at both ends. And I can tell you, it's really nice being able to walk places and wanting to feel confident is not vain. Wanting to feel confident is how you are able to show up as your best, strongest self. That is the way that you can walk in and things don't hurt you. Things don't bother you. You know, when you're walking in and you immediately think because you're insecure, What are they thinking about me? When I'm walking into a room and I am fit and I am in good shape, I know that they're looking at me going, wow, she's an old lady. And that's really impressive that she's still able to do that. Like, that's what I want to see. I want to be in my seventies and people be like, dang, like I still want to be doing that when I'm in my seventies, because that's my plan. That is what goes into my mind to be able to keep showing up because showing up and doing the daily things, doing the everyday mundane, you know, okay, I'm gonna wake up, I'm gonna go walk outside, I'm gonna go and eat my meals, I'm gonna prep my meals, I'm gonna make sure that I walk after my meals, I'm gonna make sure I drink my water. Those things aren't fun. Those things, it's like brushing your teeth. It's not, yay, I get to go brush my teeth. It's like, okay, I'm brushing my teeth because that's what I gotta do. And I think a lot of people think they have to love working out. They have to love their food. They have to love doing it. You're not gonna love it. You're not gonna love all aspects. What you're gonna love is the outcome. The result of all of your little tiny ⁓ each and every day. The end result, the feelings that you have, the strength that you feel, the confidence you're gonna feel. All of those things are what is going to start feeling good. And that's what's going to drive you to keep doing the things. But in the beginning, before you start feeling the feels, that's the hard part, because that's when the habits need to stack. You can't start doing everything all at once. People always think, let me just change everything. You try and do that. It's like trying to run a marathon. You're not going to be able to keep up that pace. So when I work with clients, a lot of times it is, Let me take a current intake of your habits, see where things are lying, which ones are priority, which ones do we work on first? Let's start here. We have a plan. We achieve this. Confidence rises because you said what you were gonna do and you did it. Now when I set the second one, you actually believe you can do it because you've already proven and shown evidence that you can. And there will be times, there will be things that people will say. I promise you, and typically it's people that you care about. And it hurts. do you have to have that? You're being too strict. Why do you always have to have everything and go to the gym all the time? Can't you just do this? A lot of times, I will tell you, it used to trigger me, but now I've been in the game long enough so it doesn't bother me, right? ⁓ know their response. is because I am basically a mirror. I am showing them what they're not able to do. And it's triggering for people when they see you doing something. The people that aren't able to do the thing. The people that you see in the gym that are in shape, the people that are staying healthy, the people that are doing what you're doing, they will be cheering you on. They will be cheering you on. because they get it. They are trying to accomplish the same thing you are. They understand and they will reinforce what you're trying to do. They will be the first ones to say, wow, girl, like great job. You look amazing. That's awesome. They won't try and tear you down. Basically you want to remember that the people that are gonna say things, those are the people that you're triggering. you want to make sure that it doesn't distract you from your goal. You always have to, and that's why that why was the first thing. You have to be really strong with what it is that you're looking to accomplish at why, ⁓ that is what's going to help you keep moving in the direction you want to move. And I another aspect that was probably the most challenging for me was to be treating myself like I treat others. So for example, I would very often put my own needs last, especially when my kids were young, especially in the toddler years. I literally didn't have the capacity. So I had to care for them first. I had to take care of the house. I had to take care of the things. So my needs, by the time I got to the end of the day, it was really challenging. So was I able to do things like I'm able to do now? Probably not. But are there little things that I've learned now that need to be in place so that I can show up better as a mom, better as a wife, better as a friend? Because you care for yourself and care for your needs, number one, when you have children, I need my kids to see. You don't put everyone else before yourself. I want my kids to watch by my model that Hey, you take care of the things you need to take care of and you must always prioritize yourself and your own needs. So whether that means, you know what? Mommy's gonna go take a little five minute walk. Mom's gonna go and sit outside for a few minutes and listen to music. Mom is gonna sit down and journal for a little bit because this is what will make me happy. Because when you are modeling that for your kids, and it doesn't mean like you all day sit around eating bonbons, but what it does mean is that you are making an effort to take a little time each day for yourself doing something to calm yourself down, something to bring yourself joy, going and getting your nails done, going to a green market, going and meeting a friend for coffee, like whatever it happens to be, those are the things that need to be priority. And there were many years that I didn't. And after many, many years of doing so much for others, I felt guilty. of actually doing something for myself. But would I want my kids to feel guilty for taking care of themselves? No. So why would it be with me? And that goes the same for how we talk to ourselves. Whenever you are speaking to yourself and you are working on a goal and something goes wrong, something is going wrong, you have an off day. We don't start berating ourself with you shouldn't have done that. Why did I do that? I do this all the time and Would we say to our kids if they made a mistake? Why do you always do this? would we say you know what we made this mistake. Let's look at things and see why this happened How can we make this better so ⁓ don't keep having this happen? it's a very different experience and it ⁓ changes because you know If you've had kids and I've tried that attempt, I've tried that way of telling them, why did you do this? And you can't do this. But if we look at talking, sitting down and having the conversation of, look, this is what happened. This is the problem with that. So let's think about if we had this situation happen again, how could we do things differently? Because that is how kids learn. This is how we learn. This is how we keep our bodies in a place that We feel grateful for what we have. feel empowered by what we are doing and it allows us to be able to grow. There is no such thing as perfection. If you are in that place that you are absolutely a hundred on point percent on point, or you are forget it. I messed up. might as well just go nuts. That place and not finding that gray area is where I see a lot of people that quit. They quit because they say, I just can't do it. It has to be when you start a journey like this, listen, I know it's not going to be perfect. I know that there's going to be some days that are off because if you have that mindset knowing it's not going to be perfect, you won't be surprised when things go off the rails, right? And at things with that perspective and that lens of things went wrong. Let me sit down and figure out why sitting down with literally your thoughts, no phone, no nothing, and just thinking about, had happened? Well, I had a really busy week. I had a lot of things, meetings come up. This is what happened. Okay, cool. Let's come up with a plan for the next time. How about ⁓ week, we're gonna look at our calendar ahead of time. We are gonna look at our calendar ahead of time to see what is coming up and what days ⁓ need to have food prepped, what days I need to schedule in the week to be able to get my movement in or my workout in. What do I need to plan to make sure that I can be successful that following week and not have that happen? Do I have some things in the freezer that when things are running late and I don't have time to cook, do I have some frozen turkey burgers or frozen salmon burgers I can throw in the air fryer for 10 minutes? Do I have maybe some cans of chicken that I can make into a quick chicken salad for lunch because I'm running out the door. of these things are helpful, right? If ⁓ ⁓ out and about, my gosh, my kids practice ran late, I didn't have anything with me. Cool. So let's come up with some ideas for maybe looking in the area of the practice and finding some food options that are located close by that you can still hit your goal. Wow, awesome, there's actually a Chick-fil-A, cool. What can we order from there that would be within your range? Well, I can get some grilled chicken nuggets, I can get that kale salad, I'll put the dressing on the side that I'll get my fats and my protein and I'll just do ⁓ carbs another meal. Cool, I'm gonna go to Chipotle, I can get some chicken and some rice and I'll get some veggies on it, awesome. So it's all about... looking at a situation and determining how to improve. You fall down, you get back up. Next time you fall down, you get back up quicker. And you just keep doing that until it gets to a point that you're like, okay, this meal went crazy. It did. So back on track and back to where I was, right? There are times that we're out and about and I go to a restaurant. Okay, you know what? I actually want to order something that I really love. Okay, cool. One meal, I'm great all week, isn't going to matter. Just like if you go to the gym, one workout, when you're working out every, you know, when you look at the grand scheme of things, if you're only gonna work out once, you're not gonna see a result. The same thing goes for your food. If you work out, if you're doing all the great things all the time and you have one thing that's off, it's not gonna throw you off. You know, so you wanna just keep that in mind and understand that when you are starting something, that you want to create a different outcome. Create a different future for yourself. Create a different body composition. Become a stronger version of yourself. Determine what it really is that would make you happy. What is it that will drive you when the mundane tasks get hard? When people say things and it gets hard? When you feel guilty or you mess up and you want to give up? What is it that you can always connect with and bring it back and be able to get you to the place and remember, let me create a plan. I'm not quitting. This is just who I am now and I'm gonna keep going. And when you make that decision, that's where the word diet is no longer in your vocabulary. This is just, I'm a healthier person now because I want a different outcome. I want a different future. Whether it's, want toned arms. I want to be able to... carry my groceries. I want to be able to, you know, run around with my grandkids. I want to be able to be there for my children and enjoy their years as they're getting older. And the time that I worked so hard throughout their younger years, busting my butt, I want to enjoy this time. I've seen too many people that work their whole lives and they're coming to me now because they've suffered a stroke or because now they're diabetic. or because now they're having health issues and now they have to change things because it's a must, not because it's a preventative I want to. So when you're waiting, remember those little things that you say to yourself, those little things that you say, hey, you know what? I'm too tired today. Today was just, I mean, this was like a crazy week. Like I just don't have the time to go train or I don't feel like. making anything, let's just go get some fast food. Like, I'm just not gonna put any effort. I just don't have anything. When it gets to that point, it's not gonna be like some huge event that happens at that moment. But over time, those little decisions that you make result in change, a gradual change that when you look back and say, holy crap, where I am now compared to 20 years ago, how your clothes are fitting, how your energy is, how you're feeling about yourself, all of these things, what is going to happen in another 20? It doesn't get easier as you age and time passes. You will know time is passing fast. So don't waste the time that you have. Really think about and connect with what life would look like if you changed your mindset. So, Thank you so much. hope this brought some value and inspired somebody to really just start looking at things in a different lens and a different perspective.
