About VJ Franz K

VJ Franz K has always liked visual and sound equally, so he prefers them together. In the late 1990s and 2000s, "VJ" was the title for video projection artists (after it had named MTV's hosts in the 80s and early 90s), and it fits: his work lives where music, live video and creative technology meet. He first released original music as just Franz K. Keeping the music and video names apart got too confusing, and as his YouTube channel grew through the 2010s under VJ Franz K, he put everything under that one umbrella. Today VJ FRANZ K - Creative Tech has more than 2,200 videos of electronic music and video: reviews, demos and performances. The name has its own story too: he is named after classical composers his dad liked, and he appreciates the writing of Franz Kafka. The live work goes back decades. A 2006 Maker Faire program counted VJ Franz K among a "new breed of Audio/Visual improvisers," performing with laptops, a camera and live video-mixing hardware. In 2011 he took part in the Levi's Film Workshop around MOCA's Art in the Streets, work PBS SoCal described as mixing video journalism, music, computer graphics and projection. And then there is Monkey Zaro. The monkey first appeared on the cover of his synthesizer music album in 1998, so 1998 is the monkey's birthday. Monkey Zaro belongs to VJ Franz K, and the official Monkey Zaro! Collection is printed by Minty Tees.
